Various CRF staff members attended the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) 2013 International Congress from April 16–18 in Detroit, Michigan. Each year this event draws over 10,000 people from 45 countries, representing original equipment manufacturers, suppliers, academia, research and development, and government.

Chuck Mueller and Jacqueline O’Connor each received an SAE Engineering Meetings Board Outstanding Oral Presentation Award. Established in 1972, this award is administered by the Engineering Meetings Board and is intended to maintain a high presentation quality level at SAE technical sessions. Evaluations are made by members of the audience for each technical presentation.

At the Congress, Paul Miles and Richard Steeper completed their three-year term as co-chairs of the SAE Powertrain, Fuels, and Lubricants (PF&L) Activity. PF&L is one of the largest of SAE’s activities, contributing half of the approximately 2,000 technical papers presented at the Congress each year. In addition to organizing PF&L technical sessions at Congress and at an off-shore meeting held each fall, Paul and Richard initiated a major restructuring of PF&L committees in order to streamline the business of soliciting, reviewing, presenting, and publishing quality technical research at SAE.
