CRF visitor Balint Sztaray, a professor of Chemistry at University of the Pacific, received a 2013 Visiting Faculty Program (VPW) Award  from DOE. The award will fund 10 weeks of research at the CRF for Balint and one of his undergraduate students. They will be working on combining Balint’s method of photoelectron-photoion coincidence spectroscopy with David Osborn’s multiplexed mass spectroscopy and evaluating the prospects for a new instrument combining these two techniques. Balint, currently on sabbatical for the spring semester, has been visiting the CRF since January and will continue his research through the end of the 2013.

The VFP seeks to increase the research competitiveness of faculty members and their students at institutions historically underrepresented in the research community in order to expand the workforce vital to DOE mission areas. As part of the program, selected university/college faculty members collaborate with DOE laboratory research staff on a research project of mutual interest. Faculty member participants may invite up to two students (one of which may be a graduate student) to participate in the research project.
