Sandia National Laboratories recently signed a Letter of Understanding with H2USA, a new public-private partnership launched by DOE to focus on advancing hydrogen infrastructure to support more transportation energy options for U.S. consumers, including fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs). The partnership brings together automakers, government agencies, gas suppliers, and the hydrogen and fuel-cell industries to coordinate research and identify cost-effective solutions to deploy infrastructure that can deliver hydrogen fuel in the United States.
Per the Letter of Understanding, Sandia will
- Participate in situational assessment and analysis.
- Form a strategy to coordinate vehicle and infrastructure rollout.
- Conduct a rigorous evaluation of potential infrastructure deployment, including promising locations and timeframes.
- Identify synergies and opportunities to leverage other alternative fueling infrastructure to enable cost reductions and economies of scale.
- Identify actions to incentivize early adopters for deploying infrastructure and FCEVs.
- Evaluate the business cases required for national commercialization of vehicle and hydrogen infrastructure technologies.
- Support participation in programs for the deployment of advanced technology vehicles, such as the National Community Deployment Challenge.
Current members of the H2USA partnership include the American Gas Association, Association of Global Automakers, the California Fuel Cell Partnership, the Electric Drive Transportation Association, the Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Energy Association, Hyundai Motor America, ITM Power, Massachusetts Hydrogen Coalition, Mercedes-Benz USA, Nissan North America Research and Development, Proton OnSite, and Toyota Motor North America.
