Sandia researcher shares her story

At a March 2021 Sandia Labs celebration of Women’s History Month, Dr. Jacqueline (Jackie) Chen—senior scientist in the chemistry, combustion, and materials science division at Sandia’s Livermore, California site—shares her success stories and career path to inspire other women in research. Jackie, honored in 2020 as one of eight national distinguished scientist fellows recognized by DOE Office of Science, is known for her work on simulation of fundamental turbulence-chemistry interactions in combustion on DOE’s Leadership class supercomputers. She is also a pioneer in the field of advanced computational methods to understand combustion and chemical reactions relevant to engines, and has helped advance modeling of the design of automotive, gas turbine and jet engines. Throughout her career, Jackie has not only inspired young scientists—mentoring dozens of researchers who have gone on to work in labs, universities, and industries around the world—but also motivated senior scientists, particularly women, to inspire others through their expertise and leadership.
