CRF manager Daniel Dedrick and researcher Chris San Marchi presented the results of a study conducted by Sandia National Laboratories on the fatigue life of steel pressure vessels, commonly used for the transport of pressurized gases, including gaseous hydrogen. Sandia analyzed the life-cycle performance of these vessels and created new design rules for hydrogen service, which has been incorporated into the CSA Group’s HPIT1 (Hydrogen Powered Industrial Truck) draft standard. The experimental methodologies are also being incorporated in the Society of Automotive Engineers’ (SAE) Technical Information Report J2579. The webinar described how the Department of Energy-Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (DOE-EERE) funded Hydrogen Safety, Codes and Standards Program was able to provide timely resources for this critical research topic.
